Urological Diseases and Their Treatment

Urological Diseases and Their Treatment

Male urological diseases can cause patients significant discomfort at best, and in severe cases can even lead to depression. This field covers problems such as sexual dysfunction, involuntary urination, and penile defects. HMC urological department offers effective solutions to all urological issues.

Urethral Stricture

Urethral Stricture is the narrowing of the urethra caused by scarring, usually as a result of an injury or disease such as urinary tract infections, but sometimes occur for unknown reasons. This is a critical issue that leads to anatomical abnormalities which can only be resolved by surgical treatment. The surgery is called urethroplasty, during which the scar tissue is removed and an anastomosis is performed using a skin patch or artificial graft.

Urinary Incontinence in Men

Urinary incontinence (the loss of bladder control) is a rather common problem that can range in severity from occasional leaks of urine during coughing or sneezing to a complete inability to hold it in before reaching the bathroom. HMC offers treatment for urinary incontinence through a sling surgery, in which a synthetic tape is implanted directly under the urethra to control urination.

Peyronie’s Disease

Peyronie’s disease causes the development of scar tissue inside the penis, which leads to a curve of the penis and pain during erection. In some cases, the pain is so harsh that it can make it difficult for a man to have sexual intercourse or maintain an erection, and may lead to high stress and anxiety levels. Peyronie’s disease is usually treated by different surgeries, depending on the manifestation of the disease. Some cases require a simple curvature correction through penile plication, while others may require a penile implant to restore sexual function.

Congenital Penile Curvature

Congenital penile curvature usually appears during adolescence and puberty, and unlike Peyronie’s disease, it is innate. This condition is reflected by an asymmetrical curve of tunica albuginea of the penis to one side. The treatment for this condition is surgical, and the operation is successful in over 90% of the cases.

Sexual Dysfunction

Statistics show that sexual and erectile dysfunction, to different degrees, affect around 50% of men who are over the age of 40. Sexual dysfunction may occur regardless of a specific disease, but can also be caused as a result of urological surgery. HMC offers a wide range of treatments for sexual dysfunction, both surgical and conservative.
