Ultrasound Examination

Ultrasound Examination

Ultrasound scanners allow the body to be imaged using ultrasound waves. This is a medical procedure that does not involve the use of radiation. It is therefore considered to be safe and relatively comfortable. This type of examination is considered to be particularly effective for the imaging of tissues, muscles and internal organs.

At Herzliya Medical Center Hospital, various types of ultrasound examinations are performed, using advanced instrumentation and digital technology, enabling maximal accuracy and detailed imaging.

Effectiveness of Ultrasound Examination

The examination provides the physician with a number of important advantages: Firstly it provides a clear and accurate picture of the condition of the structures in the region being examined, even though it is not invasive or penetrative in most cases. Secondly, it provides a dynamic picture in real-time, not just a static image – which is a big advantage and translates to a very high diagnostic capability.

Furthermore, there are ultrasound examinations that enable the physician to also assess the function of the body part from the aspect of blood vessels, and the flow of blood in them (Doppler examination). A complete picture is thus obtained from the condition of the organ or the region that is being examined. This is coupled with the examination being relatively comfortable for the patient.

What types of ultrasound are there today?

The examination can assess the structure and some of the functions of many parts of the human body. Some of the more common ultrasound examinations are:

  • Abdominal Ultrasound – Examines the condition of the internal organs: the spleen, liver, kidneys, appendix, etc.
  • Head-Neck Ultrasound – An examination that enables the physician to examine problems originating in the thyroid gland and to locate tumors in the region of the neck and jaw in general. Not infrequently, this examination includes the use of Doppler, to examine the function of the arteries and veins in this region.
  • Transvaginal Ultrasound – An examination that provides the physician with a close-up and accurate view of the entire female reproductive system. This examination involves some discomfort but usually does not involve pain.
  • Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy – FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration) examination enables a pathology specimen to be taken for microscopic examination, for the purpose of diagnosis.

The staff at Herzliya Medical Center Hospital perform many ultrasound examinations, using instrumentation that is at the forefront of medical technology. As well as examinations that incorporate Doppler, we also perform examinations using a special transducer to diagnose small structures (breast, tumors under the skin, and others). FNA examinations are also performed as needed.

At the Imaging Institute, the leading radiologists in Israel are at your disposal, with maximal availability, for rapid, accurate and professional interpretation, providing results within a very short time.
